DESIGN QUESTION
Why are museums so visual?
Why are museums so formal and monumental?
DESIGN INTENTION
The intention is to make the space of the museum focus on the other senses of the human as well as to merge into the city. In doing so, the specificity and formality of the museum needs to be broken, making the user interact with the space. and the space to the context in some sense.
SITE ANALYSIS
The site is located in Colaba, Cooperage Bandstand Garden. It has a gazebo in between which was the 1st bandstand in Mumbai. The site originally responds to sound, which made me choose this particular site.

MUSEUM OF RESONANCE
The project aims to activate the human auditory sense by having programmes that mostly involve hearing.
MUSEUM AS A CACOPHONY
Conceptually the museum functions as a recorder, distributor, collector and archiver, which is formulated physically into different spaces through multiple experiences of sound.
Audiobook space
Podcast space ( Open and semi open)
Sharing and recording space
Entertainment space
Garden( resting, relaxing and discussing in small groups)

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Programatic and spatial diagrams.
The isometric drawing shows how the space is connected to the road and is easily accessible from two sides, making it porous to the context.
The key plan shows that the abolition of the boundary wall blurs the distinction between the outside and the inside.
The plan organisation makes the space fluid and porous from within as well. One can easily meander through it.
The sections bring out the variation in the volumes of different spaces which are scattered and connected through plinths and vegetation. This kind of spatial organisation makes the space feel light.

SYNTHESIS DRAWING
The drawing shows spatial activity during day and night.
There is some formality in the program but the syntax developed is such that space doesn't cease to function as a garden and makes it feel informal and thus the monumentality and formality breaks, making the user visit the space more often.
Experiencial walkthrough of how the space might function.
